2023 LINCOLN

AVIATORRESERVE AWD

The repair bill
outruns the resale.

At a $16,500 purchase price, the visible collision and airbag damage make this a poor candidate for a retail flip.

01 / PHOTO FORENSICS

More than sheet metal.

All 13 still photographs were reviewed. Five key views below show why this estimate includes restraints, cooling, structure checks and electronics.

REPAIR IMPLICATION

STILL UNPROVEN

VISIBLE

Crushed hood; distorted left fender; broken/missing front trim and left lamp; damaged cooling/support assembly; deployed steering airbag; torn passenger dash; knee-area fabric; split front seat with deployed bag.

INSPECTION REQUIRED

Rail/apron dimensions, suspension and steering, exact airbag/pretensioner count, wiring, sensor mounts, cooling leaks, A/C and drivetrain health. Wheel angle alone does not prove suspension damage.

Rear and much of the side bodywork appear comparatively intact. Instrument warning lights are visible, but a stationary ignition-on photo cannot diagnose their causes. “Run and Drive” is an auction intake observation, not a roadworthiness or drivetrain warranty. Photos: Copart, lot 46176126; retained unaltered.

02 / COST TO RESTORE

Budget the complete repair.

An independent collision shop, competitively sourced body parts, new OEM restraint components and documented calibration. No free owner labor assumed.

Repair allowanceLeanWorkingAdverse
Total repair$18,000$26,000$40,000

These are assembled estimating allowances, not labor-guide times or supplier quotes for this VIN. Working labor allowance is roughly 55–60 combined body/mechanical/SRS hours at $75–85/hour; paint and specialty scans/calibration are separate. Structural repair beyond minor correction, major engine/transmission replacement and extensive wiring damage can exceed the adverse case. Typical $22–30k range is judgment centered on the working scenario, not a statistical interval.

Price checks behind the estimateOEM parts + repair requirements

Published online prices checked October 21, 2026; rounded below. These are individual-part anchors, before shipping/tax/installation. Trim, headlamp level, active steering, HUD and interior color require VIN-specific confirmation. Some catalog examples use ebony trim; this vehicle’s interior is light-colored.

The listed restraint/trim examples total about $4,550 before seat covering, headliner, extra bags, sensors and installation. A damaged instrument-panel assembly can add roughly $1,850–$3,350; replacement and overlap with trim must be established at teardown. Module replacement follows the workshop procedure, not an automatic assumption.

Lincoln requires pre/post collision scans and applicable ADAS calibration. The disturbed grille, camera and front supports justify a dedicated allowance. Scan statement ↗ · ADAS requirements ↗

03 / EXIT VALUE

Price it as a rebuilt vehicle.

Expected sale: $28,000–$31,000, with $29,000 as the base. A slower or less documented sale can land at $26,000–$28,000.

Asking prices, not completed sales. No verified completed rebuilt retail sale was found. Our $29k expected-sale estimate sits between the two rebuilt asks and assumes excellent repair quality, issued rebuilt title, complete records and no unresolved faults.

Copart’s $58,503 estimate is not a current resale target. A roughly $40–44k conventional retail reference and a substantial title/history discount support the lower exit value. KBB’s broad title-discount guidance ↗

Listings retrieved October 21, 2026; price/availability can change. Houston listing was indexed roughly three weeks earlier. P M Auto’s older website shows $31,575; the newer dated advertisement above shows $30,998. Seller repair claims have not been independently verified. A private seller may lack dealer financing/warranty advantages.

Auction fees: public-buyer salvage schedule at $16,500: 7.5% buyer fee ($1,237.50), $95 gate, $140–160 internet, $15 environmental, $15–20 title delivery. Rounded to $1,530. Unsecured funds add about $825. Copart fee schedule ↗

Tax: unrepaired salvage is subject to Texas sales/use tax. $1,500 reserves roughly 8.25% of purchase plus auction charges; the actual invoice determines the taxable amount. A qualified resale exemption could remove this reserve. No second motor-vehicle tax is modeled when the purchaser rebuilds and titles it. Texas tax treatment ↗

Boundaries: assumes prompt auction pickup and cash funding. Broker charges, new membership ($99 if needed), finance charges, auction storage/delays and major drivetrain replacement are excluded. Holding assumes approximately 60–90 days, not a promised completion/sale time. If $16,500 already includes auction fees, base loss improves to $17,500; if it includes both modeled fees and tax, to $16,000.

05 / RECOMMENDATION

Pass at $16,500
for a resale flip.

At the $29k expected resale, only $6,970 remains for repairs at break-even. For a $3,000 cash profit, that repair ceiling falls to $3,970. The visible damage is well beyond either budget.

Even the lean repair scenario loses about $8,300. A documented shop quote would need to change the economics dramatically to justify proceeding.

If you inspect it anyway

  1. Measure the structure. Get rail, apron, strut-tower and mounting-point dimensions plus an alignment/suspension assessment.
  2. Audit every restraint. Confirm deployed airbags, belts/pretensioners, seat/headliner/dash damage and required module work.
  3. Test the whole vehicle. Full diagnostic scan, cooling pressure test, A/C, steering, electronics and a safe post-repair road test.
  4. Get the written total. VIN-specific parts, labor, paint, taxes, freight, calibrations and a supplement allowance.
  5. Document the rebuild. Retain parts receipts, before/after photos and scan/calibration reports; obtain the Texas rebuilt title before retail resale.

Identity: VIN 5LM5J7XC3PGL02050, confirmed from the auction VIN-label photograph; Copart lot 46176126; 33,274 actual miles; Reserve AWD, 3.0L gasoline V6. Auction images can predate the current listing. Inspect present condition before committing.

Texas paperwork: the 2026 TxDMV manual describes the assigned title, Form 130-U, rebuilt statement VTR-61 and supporting documents. Published title charges include $65 rebuilt-salvage plus $28/$33 title fee, before registration/other charges. The brand remains.
